The Sweetness of Home

Austin, Texas, U.S.A. (map)

Exactly one year ago today we left what we knew as home behind and started our RTW adventure!

“Where we love is home – home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts.” Oliver Wendell Holmes

Coming home was bittersweet. On one hand we missed our family and friends very much, but on the other hand came the realization that our extended travels would be coming to an end. For many weeks after our return we were lucky to be able to spend quality time with both sets of families. Living back home with our parents made us feel like kids again (still being homeless and all). Having time with them and sharing stories was what we enjoyed most.

Being with our family and friends has reminded us that life goes on whether you are here to witness it or not. Babies are born, friends move cities, careers change…and although you were missed by those who love you it is because you are welcomed back so easily by them that it almost seems being gone was just a dream. Did we really visit those countries??? The fact that we have thousands of pictures for proof helps when I occasionally doubt that our adventure even took place. 😉

“Home is the place that goes where you go, yet it welcomes you upon your return. Like a dog overjoyed at the door. We’ve missed you is what you hear, no matter how long you’ve been gone.” Michael J. Rosen

For 10 months we made the world our home and we saw and experienced life in ways that we will not soon forget. Thankfully our travel adventures will never end of course…Thanks again to our Family and Friends for welcoming us back with so much love!

It was such fun seeing your post pop up on the computer & checking it out. Well done!! Lots of happiness in your “new life” If you ever come to Hermanus again, we’d love to have you to stay!

    1. Thanks Gail for the kind words and wonderful invitation. Hermanus was a wonderful town and South Africa surprised us in so many ways. By far the wonderful people we met while traveling through. Can’t wait to visit again!
