As we plan and work on our itinerary a few issues have come up. With the amount of places we want to visit, it is difficult to work out the weather factor. I am definitely big on going to places when the time is ideal weatherwise. I am not fond of being miserably cold if you know me at all. I have also read other travel blogs that say you should list where you want to go, cut that in half and start with that as the stretch goal. Yikes! At this time we have a tentative agenda, but as we travel it could change drastically. We plan to fly only when needed, otherwise local transportation- buses/trains. Here it is thus far…

Yes, Indonesia 🙂
If you like ancient ruins you can go to Yogyakarta on the island of Java to see Borobudur temple (the world’s largest Buddhist shrine which dates back to the 8th century).
If you like beaches, well of course there’s Bali and Lombok.
If you like wildlife you can go to Borneo or Sumatra to see orangutans, or to Komodo island to see Komodo dragons.
I think I should stop there because the list keeps going on and on. The point is, I do hope you make it to Indonesia because I’ve read so many travelers going around the world but missing Indonesia.

Quite the itinerary you have there! Very ambitious. Sounds like fun. Only thing I have to add is that you may experience travel fatigue by always being on the move. You may find yourself wanting to spend more time in one country so you can enjoy and soak in the experience instead of being in transit so much. Most people planning an RTW try to squeeze in too much and end up not leaving themselves any flexibility for spontaneity. Here was ours…

@GQ I agree, our list is more where we want to go but we both realize we will be lucky to cover 50% of it. My wife has been eyeing Q’s packing list (http://gqtrippin.com/rtw/rtw-her-packing-list/) so maybe I can motivate her to “carry-on” only pack size to take.
Agreed with Gerard. Take it slow, we’ve just finished our 2nd RTW and the second time was slower than the first. 14 countries in 10 months. Enjoy yourselves!
